How do I make this photo?

- Review the automatic 34 ± 2 mm from chin to crown framing and keep the background no pattern; white recommended.
- Use only edits permitted by the issuing authority, then export the 700 × 900px JPEG.
What should I check before submission?
- Confirm the portrait represents the applicant’s current appearance.
- Check both eyes are visible and avoid blur, glare, hard shadows or covered facial features.
- Compare the exported crop with the authority source; correct dimensions alone do not guarantee acceptance.
- Use background or quality tools only when the authority permits them and the likeness remains natural.
- Keep the final file at or below 600 KB.
What file will Photo Pass create?
The digital download is a JPEG cropped to 700 × 900 pixels. You can also prepare a 300 DPI A4, A5 or 6 × 4 inch print sheet using the physical 35 × 45 mm size. Review printer scaling and disable “fit to page” when exact physical dimensions are required.

Why might a correctly sized photo be rejected?
Common causes include an old or altered portrait, an incorrect expression, closed or obscured eyes, uneven lighting, a visible shadow, low resolution, an unapproved background or a crop that does not match the required head position. Application channels can also impose a different file limit or capture process.
What is specific to this passport?
Japan MOFA publishes more than one visa application form: the general form currently shows a 45 × 45 mm photo box, while a separate Certificate of Eligibility form shows 45 × 35 mm. This preset follows the general form, but applicants must use the exact form required by their embassy and visa category.
A passport photo becomes part of a long-lived identity document. Use a recent portrait, preserve a natural likeness and check rules for expression, glasses, head coverings and children. For printed applications, verify paper finish, quantity and any photographer certification separately from the digital crop.
