Japan Tourist visa requirements at a glance
Use these values for the selected authority, then compare the final portrait with the linked official instructions before submission.
Exported as a fresh JPEG file.
Keep the background even and free of visible shadows.
Face forward with eyes visible and a natural expression.
How do I make this photo?
- Keep the preselected Japan Tourist visa preset.
- Choose a recent, clear portrait with one front-facing subject.
- Review the automatic recent full-face frontal portrait framing and keep the background plain white or light background.
- Use only edits permitted by the issuing authority, then export the 900 × 900px JPEG.
What should I check before submission?
- Confirm the portrait represents the applicant’s current appearance.
- Check both eyes are visible and avoid blur, glare, hard shadows or covered facial features.
- Compare the exported crop with the authority source; correct dimensions alone do not guarantee acceptance.
- Use background or quality tools only when the authority permits them and the likeness remains natural.
What file will Photo Pass create?
The digital download is a JPEG cropped to 900 × 900 pixels. You can also prepare a 300 DPI A4, A5 or 6 × 4 inch print sheet using the physical 45 × 45 mm size. Review printer scaling and disable “fit to page” when exact physical dimensions are required.
Who reviewed this requirement?
The Photo Pass editorial team checked the preset against the linked issuing-authority material on 9 August 2026. The review covers dimensions, background, head placement, format, file-size limits and stated editing restrictions. Requirements can change, so the authority source remains the final reference.
Read the verification methodology or report an inaccurate requirement.
Why might a correctly sized photo be rejected?
Common causes include an old or altered portrait, an incorrect expression, closed or obscured eyes, uneven lighting, a visible shadow, low resolution, an unapproved background or a crop that does not match the required head position. Application channels can also impose a different file limit or capture process.
What is specific to this tourist visa?
Japan MOFA publishes more than one visa application form: the general form currently shows a 45 × 45 mm photo box, while a separate Certificate of Eligibility form shows 45 × 35 mm. This preset follows the general form, but applicants must use the exact form required by their embassy and visa category.
Tourist-visa applications are often filed online but may still require a printed photograph at an appointment. Confirm the destination, application centre and visa category. A passport photograph from another country is not automatically interchangeable with the destination visa format.
Checked against the issuing authority
The source supports the core requirement recorded above. Review it again if your application form or appointment instructions show a different rule.
Photo Pass is an independent preparation tool. It is not affiliated with the issuing authority and cannot guarantee acceptance.
