Taiwan visa photo requirements
Check Taiwan visitor visa photo size, head height, white background, quantity and six-month recency requirements.
Taiwan visa photo requirements at a glance
Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs visitor-visa checklists commonly request two colour photographs measuring 35 × 45 mm, taken within the last six months against a plain white background. ICAO-style Taiwan photo guidance places the head between 32 and 36 mm from chin to crown.
- Photo size
- 35 × 45 mm
- Head height
- 32–36 mm
- Quantity
- Usually 2
- Photo age
- Within 6 months
Visa requirements vary by category and overseas mission. Confirm the number of photos and attachment method on the checklist for your exact visitor, resident, student or digital-nomad visa.
Face and head position
Show the head and top of the shoulders, with the head evenly centred. Face forward and look directly at the camera. Keep the eyes open, mouth closed and expression neutral.
The face should occupy roughly 70% to 80% of the photograph. Leave a clear margin above the hair so the head does not touch the upper edge.
White background and image quality
Use a plain white background and natural, even lighting. The portrait should be sharp, correctly exposed and show natural skin colour. Avoid red-eye, deep shadows, bright glare and visible background texture.
The paper photo should be clean and free from ink marks, folds or creases.
Keep the likeness truthful
Taiwan’s official photo guidance warns against composite, mirrored and altered images. Do not reverse the face, combine multiple photographs, reshape features, remove natural marks or use AI-generated replacement details.
Phone selfies can also mirror the image or distort the face with a wide-angle lens. Ask another person to take the photo from a suitable distance.
Glasses and coverings
- Tinted glasses and coloured contact lenses are not acceptable.
- Eyeglass frames must not cover the eyes and lenses must not reflect light.
- Keep the eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth and outline of the face visible.
- Religious coverings must not obscure facial features.
- Avoid hair falling across the eyes or sides of the face.
